Moving…

iBelog was the fieldwork blog that in the end I was too busy to write while doing fieldwork.
So for the time being I’ve moved the project over to my homepage while I mull over the possibilities…

I Belog (pronounced “ee b’ low-g”) is a character from Balinese folklore whose name translates more or less precisely as ‘Mr. Stupid’, or ‘Dummy’. In the stories Balinese parents have long told to their children, I Belog is always getting himself into some kind of trouble on account of his dim wits. In my experience, the misadventures of I Belog are not really so very different from those of anthropological fieldwork. One is always getting into scrapes and making silly mistakes that even the simplest of children knows how to avoid. Much of what I have learned in the course of conducting fieldwork has come precisely through such trial and error. This blog will be an attempt to keep track of this process as it goes along.
